THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY LENS
A circular economy is an economic system that adopts a regenerative approach, in contrast to the traditional linear economy, which has a ‘take, make, dispose’ model of production.
It can be achieved through designing out waste and pollution, extending the life cycle of products and materials in use via maintenance, repair, reuse, remanufacturing, refurbishing, and recycling, as well as the regeneration of natural systems.
Slowly but surely, we are all recognizing that the current linear economic model of “take, make and dispose” that has fuelled the progress of the human race for many decades cannot continue and that we all, as individuals, organizations and countries, need to adopt a different approach to how we make best use of the resources at our disposal. This alternative economic model requires all of us to move towards adopting the principles of a Circular Economy, and IAG certainly took this thinking into account when developing its updated, globally recognized management model.
IAG has now gone one step further and, in partnership with its Finnish Partner, Lateness’s, (https://www.laatukeskus.fi) it has developed a specific Lens, based on the IAG Model, that offers organizations the opportunity to take a laser focused look at its progress in migrating towards the adoption of Circular Economy principles in all its operations.
What are the guiding principles and structure of the IAG Circular Economy Lens?
The IAG Circular Economy Lens is based on the same principles of Why? How? What? that underpin the IAG Model and framed within its seven criteria. Rather than taking a broad look at how well an organization, overall, is performing, this Lens invites any organization to take a highly focused look at the degree to which it has embedded the Circular Economy principles into its Culture and Strategy whilst delivering outstanding performance and being recognized by its various Stakeholders as a role model in the Circular Economy.
This Lens gives any organization the opportunity to baseline its performance, identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement and help it to generate the necessary impetus to make further progress.
