THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (UN SDGs)
In September 2015, all 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted a plan for achieving a better future for all — laying out a path over the next 15 years to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect the planet. At the heart of “Agenda 2030” are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 associated Targets.
Fulfilling these ambitions will take an unprecedented effort by all sectors in society — and business in particular – has a very important role to play in the process.
There is a high level of synergy between the IAG Model and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. IAG believes that all organizations, whether they be private, public or third sector, can benefit significantly from understanding their relationship with the UN SDGs and Targets, determining their impact on the SDGs and the impact of the SDGs on their activities. However, there is still so much untapped opportunity as the United Nations Global Compact Progress Report 2020 revealed:
39% of companies surveyed believe they have targets that are sufficiently ambitious to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
33% consider their industry to be moving fast enough to deliver priority SDGs.
84% of companies surveyed are taking action on SDGs but only 46% are embedding them into their core business.
37% are designing business models that contribute to the SDGs.

The IAG UN SDG Lens recognizes that every organization has its own ecosystem and context, which makes its relationship with the UN SDGs unique. This Lens invites an organization to examine how the SDGs impact on the organization and how the organization impacts on the achievement of the SDGs.
